Tigers & Teddies Live! ACES & attachment theory

By No Comments

Tigers and Teddies LiveTigers & Teddies Live is back with our second series!  These conversations grew out of our new book ‘Sabre Tooth Tigers and Teddy Bears’, written by developmental psychologist Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk.  She’ll be with us, knitting together insights across all our topics.  And chair Gary Robinson will be back too, showing off his latest bow ties.

In this episode, we’re going to get a better understanding of how the theories of attachment and ACES fit together.  They aren’t as different as is sometimes assumed. In fact some commentators argue that ACES is an extension of attachment theory, which has been with us since the 1940s.  Activist Simon Partridge is one of those.  His articles on this theme deserve to be read by a much wider range of people, so we are pleased to bring him to you, live!  Sally Amor, based in Highland’s Public Health, is co-author of the 2018 Annual Report on ACES from the health trust, so she spends a lot of time thinking about contemporary public conversations on adversity.  If you love thinking about theory, this is the episode for you!

Tigers & Teddies Live! Attachment Theory for Parents

By No Comments

Join us for the next on-line event in our summer series Tigers & Teddies Live! It will be chaired by Gary Robinson and Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk, author of the book that sparked the series, ‘Sabre Tooth Tigers & Teddy Bears: The connected baby guide to attachment’, published earlier this spring.  This week’s topic is Attachment Theory for Parents.

We’ll meet Michelle and Kara, from Craigmillar Books for Babies, who regularly give out copies of the book Tigers & Teddies to families who use their service.  They’ll tell us why they think parents find this information so helpful and why understanding attachment makes parenting feel more joyful and less pressured.  We’ll also meet Stephanie Beckman, whose children feature in the book’s photos.  She’ll tell us how understanding attachment theory has changed her as a parent and why she thinks everyone deserves to share in this knowledge.

We look forward to welcoming many of you to this latest event in our summer series.
